Corey Hamm

Pianist Corey Hamm is establishing a unique musical profile. In recent years, he has toured and recorded Frederic Rzewski’s monumental The People United Will Never Be Defeated! His CD won Spotify’s Best Classical Recording 2014. Further recording plans include a CD of works written for him and the complete piano works of Henri Dutilleux.

Corey Hamm has premiered over 400 solo, chamber, and concerto works including for PEP (Piano and Erhu Project), The Nu:BC Collective, and for Hammerhead Consort. His three chamber music initiatives have received praise both for their recordings and their artistry.

Dr. Hamm is an award-winning Professor of Piano at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Summer Liu

Summer Liu, a 12-year-old 7th grader at Lake Middle School in Woodbury, has been studying
cello with Andrea Glass at the MacPhail Center for Music for six years.

She won the 2025 MacPhail Concerto & Aria Competition, having also won it in 2024 (duo) and
2023 (solo). She earned First Prize in the 2024 Chicago International Music Competition, the
2024 Minnesota Sinfonia Young Artist Competition (Junior Division), and was a finalist in the
2023 Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies Concerto Competition. She also placed Second in
the 2023 American Classical Young Musician Award and Third in the 2022 American Music
Talent Competition and received the 2023–2024 MacPhail Bjork-Pederson Suzuki Scholarship.

Summer is a cellist in the Symphony Orchestra of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies,
the MacPhail Chamber Orchestra, and the MacPhail Cello Rock Band. She also plays
percussion in her school band and enjoys reading, biking, skiing, rock climbing, video games,
and spending time with friends and pets.
